Current Favourite Lipstick - Charlotte Tilbury Love Liberty

January 21, 2016

You may have noticed that over the past few weeks I've spoken very highly about the newest addition to my lipstick collection and it has gotten a lot of love from not only all of you, but also myself as it has been featured in a few posts recently. I thought it was about time I gave this lipstick a full review and i've not really given this lipstick the recognition it deserves, as i've been saving it for now.

Just before Christmas, whilst at a blogger meet up in Plymouth of all places I found out that i'd won Rips and Raybans amazing Charlotte Tilbury lipstick giveaway over on Twitter and as I never win anything I was so shocked, but so excited to see what this lipstick was like as i'd never swatched any Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks before.

Ever since this Charlotte Tilbury Love Liberty Lipstick (£23) first arrived i've been absolutely in love with it and it only took me two days to give this a full test run at my works Christmas party. It arrived so beautifully packaged in a Charlotte Tilbury box and bag, with a selection of different skincare samples of which i'm really excited to try out as i've some amazing things about her skincare range.

The lipstick itself is from Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution lipstick collection, which is a range of beautiful matte finish lipsticks that are like no other formula that i've tried. Although as the name suggests this lipstick has a matte finish but it is not at all uncomfortable or drying on the lips unlike many other matte lipsticks that I own. This shade is also very different to any that I own and is quite difficult to explain. As the colour from the bullet would suggest, this is red shade but it has a lovely berry undertone that is just beautiful. As my natural lip tone is quite dark, this appears a lot darker than what you would expect but I absolutely love this shade!

It's true what everyone says, when you get your first ever Charlotte Tilbury makeup product is a truly magical experience and it has given me the Charlotte Tilbury bug! The packaging of this lipstick is to die for and I cannot wait to add to my Charlotte Tilbury collection.

Have you tried any Charlotte Tilbury products?

MAC Lipstick Collection

January 26, 2015

It's been a while since i've properly spoken about my MAC lipsticks, as I don't tend to review them anymore. I thought it was about time I shared my MAC lipstick collection as it's really grown over the past year and a lot of you do ask what my favourite shades, favourite finish etc..

It's safe to say my MAC collection is very pink/purple, as I don't tend to steer towards any other shades. Nudes and light pinks don't really suit my skin tone and reds I find wash me out, again because i'm so pale, so I just stick with warmer pink/purple shades as I find they suit me the most.

As for finishes, I do not like the matte finish especially of the MAC Lipstick (£15.50) as they are just too drying for my lips and the lipstick itself just clings to any dry patches that I have. The majority of these shades are the amplified finish, which is by far my favourite as they are super pigmented but also not drying in the slightest. I have a couple of, which again aren't drying at all as they are quite shiny but their pigmentation isn't as intense so they are great for everyday wear. As for the satin finish, I prefer it to the matte finish as it isn't as drying but I find I still have to be careful when applying as it can sling a little.

Onto the shades in my collection (L-R)..

Lustering is a lustre finish and this shade is a lovely rose pink shade that I love for everyday wear. It just adds a lovely pop of colour that isn't too pigmented or intense and the sheen to the finish of this lipstick is super moisturising and stops the lipstick drying into your lips.

Full Fuchsia is an amplified finish and as the name suggests this is a bright fuchsia pink shade that I love to wear during the evening, there is something about a bright pink evening lip that I love (without it looking trashy). As it is an amplified finish, the shade is a lot more pigmented and less of a sheen to it in comparison to the lustre finish - it almost looks matte, without it looking dry.

Show Orchid is my most recent addition, and again is a bright pink shade. It's is somewhat similar to Full Fuchsia but has a more pink undertone, making the shade more of a hot pink than a fuchsia. Again I love this shade as it is an amplified finish and the pigmentation of this is crazy, so bright but I love it!

Girl About Town was the first bright pink shade I ever purchased from MAC, so it was a little out of my comfort zone but is one of my favourite shades. This shade is very similar to the previous shades, but is just that little bit deeper than Show Orchid and more pink than Full Fuchsia. Another amplified finish (can you tell they are my favourite?!) and this one I love to wear all year round, any time of day as it just warms up my complexion.

Plumful has got to be my favourite shade in my MAC collection, I don't know why but this shade is perfection. I love this for everyday wear as it's plum/pink shade is like a your lips but better, with a hint of plum and I love it! It's a lustre finish, but the pigmentation of this is beautiful and the formula is so creamy that it glides on like a dream - if you haven't swatched this or don't own it, you need too!

Up The Amp is a shade i'd never thought i'd own, but I was feeling daring and brave so I swatched it and next thing I knew it was mine. In the bullet it looks very purple, but when applied it has this pink undertone that doesn't make it look as intense. This again is an amplified finish, so the pigmentation is unreal but again this one is really creamy and applies lovely to the lips. I definitely won't be going anymore purple than this, but it's definitely worth a look at if you're thinking of rocking a purple lip.

Rebel is a shade that I think everyone owns and I can see why. In the bullet it looks like an intense vampy purple, but on the lips it is this beautiful deep plum shade with a beautiful pink undertone - such a stunning shade and I think this was my first ever MAC purchase. This is the only satin finish that I own, and I think if they brought out this shade or something very similar in amplified I would prefer it, just because it can dry my lips out pretty bad, but I do it all for that beautiful shade.

Each of these lipsticks have varied in price, depending on where i've purchased them and the price of their lipsticks has risen every time I purchase a new one.

So that is my MAC lipstick collection - small I know, but perfect for me!

Lip Edit: A/W Lip Picks

October 17, 2014

I've seen a fair few bloggers sharing their a/w lip picks and I thought i'd jump on the bandwagon, and share which shades i'll be getting the most wear out of as the winter months roll in.

Last a/w I was all about the berry lip, it was my go to and I loved how confident a berry lip made me feel. This year, i'm still going to be rocking the berry lip, but i'll also be introducing some different shades into the mix.

Starting with the Makeup Revolution 'Atomic Red' Lipstick* (£1), which is this beautiful pink toned red shade that I have literally fallen in love with. This lipstick is from Makeup Revolution's new Atomic Collection and all of the shades in this range are all about intensity and drama. This shade is definitely the most intense red i've ever owned and I love the rich pigmentation to it. Next up is my favourite lipstick of the moment, and this is the MAC 'Plumful' Lipstick (£15.50). It's a beautiful muted down plum pink, perfect for everyday wear and I love the little pop of colour that it gives. As it's a lustre finish, the pigmentation isn't as intense but it is really build-able and it isn't at all drying.

Moving on the more deeper berry shades, and a firm favourite of mine is the YSL 'No.5' Volupte Shine Lipstick (£25). This shade is very rich berry/plum shade that has this beautiful shine finish to it, that I absolutely love. I really need to wear this lipstick more, I just get scared carrying around that i'm going to lose it, but I think i'll be getting a lot more wear out of this. Next is a more cheaper option when it comes to berry shades, and this is the Revlon 'Raspberry Pie' Lip Butter (£7.99). This shade is a lovely deep raspberry shade, but is also really moisturising and so wearable for an everyday basis.

Lastly is my lip crayon pick for a/w and this is the Revlon 'Flirtatious' Colorburst Lacquer Balm (£7.99). I love the finish of this as it is super nourishing, but also so pigmented and so wearable for an everyday basis. It's also great if you want a quick sweep of colour when you're in a rush.

What shades are you wearing this a/w?

Lip Edit: Summer Lips

June 03, 2014

It feels like it's been a while since i've written up a lip edit post, and it feels good to be back especially as i'm talking about my picks for this summer today. I'm bringing back a few favourites from last summer, as I really got into my lip products, whilst also bringing a few new picks into the mix.

Starting off with my most recent favourite lip product and that is the Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm in the shade 'Unapologetic'. This colour is definitely my bright pop of colour for this summer as this shade is so bright and really brightens up my complexion. I also love the formula of this, as matte finishes have never been my favourite.. I love how they look just not on me, but this so moisturising!

Another pick from Revlon and another recent delve for me into the Revlon Lip Butter in the shade 'Raspberry Pie'. This shade is a little darker for summer, but seeing as I love my plum shades this is my exception for my summer picks. Lasts well, nourishing and overall just lovely!

This next pick is probably my most favourite from last summer, this next product is the Maybelline Color Whisper in the shade 'A Plum Prospect'. Little back story, I lost this stupidly on a night out and I was gutted, so when Alexandra sent me a replacement I was so so happy! I love this as it makes my lips look so juicy and this is such a pretty pinky shade with a slight purple undertone, love it!

Moving onto two more products that I loved last summer, well technically the same product but in two shades and of course i'm talking about the Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayons in the shades 'Red Sunrise' and 'Orange Punch'. I love the formula of these and they are so easy to apply when you just want a quick sweep of colour that doesn't dry out the lips and lasts pretty well. Both of these shades are so different to any other lip products I own, which is probably why I like them so much.

Last but not least, I couldn't not include my current favourite MAC Lipstick in the shade 'Girl About Town'. I've recently rekindled my love for this shade as it adds such a nice pop of pink without it being to 'in your face' but also not too subtle, a nice in between. I love this shade for when i'm more dressed up or going for drinks, but I don't trust myself with any of my more pricier lipsticks on nights out, sigh.

What lip products are you reaching for this summer?

The Lipstick Tag

May 20, 2014

I've seen this tag floating around for quite some time now, and as i've been a little stuck for post ideas I thought why not do a tag, that not only i'll enjoy but you guys could too!

1. How many lipsticks do you own?

Now I didn't know if this meant purely lipsticks, or whether to include lip crayons, liquid lipsticks etc, but I own around 25 lipsticks not including the ones that are in bags or lying around the house.

2. What was your first ever lipstick?

I think my first lipstick was Rimmel Vintage Pink, which is basically a your lips but better colour and I still use it every now and then if I want a really neutral lip.

3. What is your favourite lipstick brand?

Now this one I struggled with, seeing as I own the most MAC lipsticks out of all the lipsticks I have, I guess MAC is my favourite, but I also really like the CK Lipsticks and the Illasmasqua Lipsticks also.

4. What is your most worn lipstick(s)?

This was also a difficult one as I wear so many different lip products, but my most worn i've managed to narrow down to three. MAC Rebel, MAC Plumful and CK Fusion.

5. What is your favourite finish of lipstick?

Now I didn't know about lipstick finishes until I got into blogging, which is where I discovered that I hate matte formula's with a passion. My favourite finishes have to be either Satin or the MAC Amplified as they aren't too drying.

6. Last lipstick you bought?

I actually bought three, MAC Plumful, MAC Lustering and Illasmasqua Glissade.

7. How many lip products do you have in your bag?

At the moment four, MAC Plumful, MAC Lustering, Revlon 'Raspberry Pie' Lip Butter and my trusty Nivea Lip Butter.

8. What is your favourite red?

I'm not a big red lip kinda' gal, but if I do want a red lip i'll usually opt for one of my lip crayons. The ones i'm loving is the Revlon Colour Burst 'Striking Spectacular' Matte Balm or the Bourjois Colour Boost 'Red Sunrise' Lip Crayon. If I want a more bold red lip, then i'll go for the Yves Rocher 'Framboise' Lipstick.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?

At the moment in my Ikea drawer system, but i'm hoping to switch to Muji storage over the coming months.

10. Currently lusting after?

To be honest i'm not really lusting after any which is a shocker, but I haven't really been browsing as I have no money but knowing me i'll find something soon.

So that is my take on The Lipstick Tag. I don't know who has or hasn't done this tag so I tag everyone and anyone who wants to do it.

A/W

Lip Edit: A/W Lipstick Picks

September 12, 2013

After the #bbloggers chat got us all talking about A/W the other week, it really got me thinking about the lip colours I wanted to get out for the A/W months as the 'plum lip' was definitely a popular topic during the chat. So I had a little rummage through my lip product and i've pulled out five that I think would be perfect for A/W.

L-R: Bourjois 'Red Sunrise' Lip Crayon, Maybelline 'Cherry Me' Babylips, Maybelline 'Berry Ready' Color Whisper, MAC 'Rebel', CK 'Fusion'.

Now a lot of these shades are kind of similar, but every lipstick lover out there will understand that they really aren't all that similar (trying to justify here ha).

Starting with the highly talked about Bourjois 'Red Sunrise' Lip Crayon (review here) for me this is going to be my staple red lip colour as a normal red lipstick makes me look so pale, but thankfully this doesn't. The lightweight glossy finish to this suits me so well and as this is a build able lip colour I can wear this in so many different ways.

Sticking with the red, next is the Maybelline 'Cherry Me' Baby Lips (review here). Now I know this product doesn't have that much pigmentation to it, it does give my lips a nice wash of pinky red that I really like. Also, as the winter months tend to dry out my lips this will come in so handy to help my keep my lips moisturised and hydrated.

Moving more into the berry/plum colours, is the Maybelline 'Berry Ready' Color Whisper (review here). As I mentioned in my recent review, I honestly love this lipstick as it is the perfect berry red shade that glides on so smoothly and gives a somewhat glossy finish but also keeps my lips hydrated throughout the day.

Next is one I know a lot of you want to get your hands on and that is MAC 'Rebel' (review here). This is one of my favourite lipsticks as it is the perfect plum lipstick, I just love how pigmented the colour is. As this has a satin finish, it is a little drying but I find applying a lipbalm before applying the lipstick helps to keep my lips a little more hydrated throughout the day. I don't think i'll ever be without this lipstick, every girl should own this lipstick in my eyes.

Lastly is a lipstick that I think of as an almost dupe for Rebel and that is the CK 'Fusion', which is another lovely plum shade. I really like this lipstick as it glides on so smoothly and has a lovely finish that doesn't dry my lips out at all. For £1.99 this lipstick is one that I couldn't say no to.

What lip colours are going to be wearing this A/W?
