The Best of 2013: Makeup

January 07, 2014

As the final instalment of The Best in 2013 series, I was obviously going to save makeup until last. For this one I couldn't narrow it down as i've been loving so many makeup products/items this year, but I am going to split it into more categories to make it easier to read.
FACE
Starting off with the obvious products and the products that I apply first. These products were no brainers for me as they are the ones that I have used religiously throughout the year.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation - This foundation for me really stood out this year and with most of my foundations being from Rimmel it's obvious who is my favourite high street brand, especially for foundation. This product has been a lovely product to have, it matches my skin tone pretty well, buffs in lovely leaving my skin with a lovely finish and it also makes my skin feel and appear more awake. Love it.

Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder - Surprise surprise, another Rimmel product. Having not delved into the Stay Matte powder, i've kept myself true to this powder. It works so well to finish off any makeup look and also takes away the over dewy oily look that I often get with liquid foundations. Not to mention it lasts ages!

Nars 'Luster' Blush - This for me was probably my favourite makeup product of 2013 and my first ever Nars purchase. I bought this back in February and there probably has not been a day that I have not used this. It's peachy bronzey shade is perfect for warming up my complexion without making me look orange and I can wear it all year round. The fact that I haven't hit pan yet also shows how long these blushers can last.

Tarte 'Peaceful' Amazonian 12-hour Clay Blush - Another blush, but one that I used with the previous product pretty much since I got this. I love the formula of this blush and the pigmentation, you literally need to smallest amount to give a nice natural flush to the cheeks. If you can get your hands on one of these at some point, then i'd highly recommend.

EYES
Again all of these products were no brainers, ones I have repurchased throughout the year and still love to this day.

Collection Fast Stroke Liquid Eyeliner - This has been my go to eyeliner for a good few years now and even though i've delved into others, I have always come back to this one. The brush is the perfect thickness, not too thin and not too thick that it creates the perfect eyeliner look and the product is so pigmented. It lasts well throughout the day and it's cheap as hell.

Collection Multiplier Mascara - After the Skyscraper Mascara was discontinued I decided to give another Collection mascara a whirl and let me tell you I was not disappointed. This mascara is great at separating the lashes whilst also giving them some length and lift. For a plastic wand brush, I wasn't sure how i'd get on with it but I think it's safe to say that I prefer them over fibre brushes.

Rimmel Soft Kohl Pencil Eyeliner - Another Rimmel product! This one I have repurchased over and over and has to be my favourite black pencil eyeliner. I use this everyday to line my upper waterline and it does such a good job. Even though it does come off during the day, it's small enough to throw in your bag to reapply whenever needed.

Naked 2 Palette - Let me just point out that Naked 2 is not real, ebay scammers for you. Never the less I have still loved using this palette. The shades are practically identical to the ones within the Naked 2 just a lot less pigmented but easily build-able. I love this for creating day to day eyeshadow looks as well as the occasional smokey eye for nights out and from using this it has definitely made me want to invest in the proper Naked 2.

ETC - TOOLS/PALETTES
This category is a bit of a random one as I could have put these into the first category but I didn't for some reason. Again, these are products that I have not gone a day without this year and ones I will continue to love.

Real Techniques Brushes - This year I discovered RT brushes and fell in love with them. Every brush I own, I use practically every day and they create some amazing makeup looks, leaving my skin with flawless finishes and beautifully applied blushers. Could not recommend these brushes any more if I tried!

Eyelash Curlers - I have no idea what brand these curlers are from as I got them in a GlossyBox, but they are the best curlers I have ever used. They work so well to lift my lashes and give them some curl rather than them sticking out all over the place. I use these everyday without fail and I will never look back.

Nars One Night Stand Palette - It was obvious I was going to include this, even though i've only had it a couple of months, I have literally fallen head over heels for this palette. It's an amazing palette as it allows me to create some amazing contoured cheek looks and it's ideal for on the go as it fits so well into any bag or makeup bag. Such a shame that it was limited edition as I would repurchase this over and over!

LIPS
As lips is the last thing I do when it comes to makeup, I thought i'd end with these. This year I definitely delved into lipsticks and found some amazing shades that really work well with my skin tone.

CK 'Fusion' Lipstick - This is my cheap lipstick that I always take on nights out with me, as i'm not too fussed incase this one was to get lost, as it's cheap enough to repurchase. I love the deep plum/pink shade as it really works well with my skin tone and it doesn't dry out my lips at all. Love this.

MAC 'Rebel' - My favourite MAC of the year. I love this shade, just like so many bloggers out there do. It's the perfect vampy plum shade that just looks beautiful on the lips. I don't wear this as much as I should, but i'm going to try and wear this, as well as few more of my lipsticks within 2014.

Baby Lips 'Cherry Me' - Everyone went crazy for these when they launched in the summer, and this one is the only one that stood out to me. I loved this during summer, as it moisturised my lips whilst also giving a lovely pinky red tint that worked really well within my daily makeup look. I still wear this every now and then, when I want some colour to my lips but I don't want to wear a lipstick.

Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayons - This year the release of these things sent us bloggers crazy I swear, every one had at least one if not all of them! These for me are probably my favourite release of the year. I love the glossy pigmented build able formula to these and they last so well on the lips throughout the day. I always have one of these in my bag somewhere as they are so easy to apply on the go and work with any outfit or makeup look.

So that is the end of my 2013 favourites! I hope you guys liked reading what products i've been loving and I can't wait to start discovering more in 2014!

  14. i did not realize that there were different rimmel powders. I want to try the clear one. I have the stay matte one and like it. but would not mind trying more from rimmel. I have the cherry one and loved the color and effect, but i really could not stand the scent and taste.
